Scientists are concerned that a strain of influenza currently being spread among birds in southeast Asia (H5N1) will mutate to allow sustained human-to-human transmission, and lead to the next global influenza pandemic. The fact remains that there will be a serious time-lag between A) a strain of the avian flu virus (currently at a 50% mortality rate) gaining the ability for sustained human-to-human transmission; and B) the development of a proven, effective vaccine, produced in sufficient quantities for all of us, and distributed to all of us. Even in a best-case scenario, millions of people worldwide would get sick and die during this time-lag. It's not a question of IF this lag will happen, it's WHEN it will happen, and how (un)prepared each of us is. Here are some of the information resources which I have found to be both credible and usable, so you can follow the news yourself: First, two useful news resources which can save you time if you are looking for current newspaper coverage of avian flu: - Google News: Avian Flu/Bird Flu; - NewsNow: Bird Flu. Other very useful resources for you to keep up-to-date... Special issue of the journal Nature: Avian Flu A special section in the July/August 2005 issue of Foreign Affairs: The Next Pandemic? ProMED-mail, the Program for Monitoring Emerging Diseases, is a program of the International Society for Infectious Diseases. Center for Infectious Disease Research & Policy (CIDRAP) at the University of Minnesota: Avian Influenza and Pandemic Influenza. The World Health Organization Avian Flu index: Note that the WHO has come under severe criticism for not standing up to the Chinese government, and getting them to come clean about the numbers of infections and deaths due to avian flu occuring within the People's Republic of China. U.S. National Institutes of Health and National Library of Medicine: Useful collection of good information for laypeople. Connotea: articles tagged "AvianFlu" (more academic/scientific links, mostly compiled by Declan Butler, who is a senor reporter covering avian flu for Nature). You can also see only the posts by Mr. Butler. Connotea is an academic social networking service, based on journal and book citations (think Friendster meets RefWorks). Blog: H5N1 Blog: Effect Measure Blog: Recombinomics For those who prefer to listen rather than read, here is a link to two two-hour interviews with an expert on virus mutations, and a pandemic disaster management specialist, on the threat posed by bird flu: http://mp3.rbnlive.com/Geri05.html. Warning: there are a few phone-ins by the tin-foil-hat conspriacy-theory crowd :-) And finally, two online discussion forums; here people from a wide variety of backgrounds -- engineers, disaster management planners, microbiologists and other scientists, doctors, cops, nurses, homecanners, housewives, herbalists, writers and journalists, etc. -- talk about how best to prepare for a potential flu epidemic/pandemic. There is much good preparation and planning information in these forums! - the Flu Clinic forum on CurEvents.com (particularly useful is their Master Flu Preps thread); - the Disease Outbreaks forum on Agonist.org. If I had to pick one resource to recommend, it would be the Flu Clinic on CurEvents.com. This is where news reports come in quickly and are dissected at length. More layperson-oriented and less "scientific" than the Agonist.org forum, and very few trolls, wackos, and flamewars (the moderators know when to crack down when necessary). Please, EDUCATE YOURSELF. We could well be facing something the same as (or potentially even worse) than the Spanish Influenza pandemic of 1918-1919.

The authorities are going forward with some very bold, very disturbing assumptions:1) The "H1N1 swine flu" (which actually has elements of H5N1 avian flu) IS going to be back this fall. How do they know? Is the return of this virus or a variant of it going to be a PLANNED OUTBREAK?2) The commentators are literally telling people "be very afraid". To heighten this fear-mongering, the media is hyping the planned military participation in the "pandemic response", and the implementation of mass quarantines and mandatory vaccinations (time index 2:14).3) The forced vaccination plans target first-responders, care givers, mothers, children, teachers. Many medical professionals all over America who have been polled have stated that they will refuse the H1N1 vaccine on the grounds that vaccines are dangerous, particularly this one (see other videos on YT that confirm this).4) Martial Law is openly referenced in the on-screen graph at 4:42, it shows military border closures between US states, thereby restricting travel. Never in American history have internal checkpoints been established, and if this is done the militias of the states will necessarily have to mobilize.5) It is expected that 42 million people will be vaccinated by the beginning of November, but the possible deliberate withholding of the 160 million dose supply of vaccines, and other medical supplies and services this fall will further serve to create fear and panic, thus manufacturing the demand for a heightened government response.SPECIAL NOTE: I got this video from another patriot, and I do not have software that can separate the music from the rest of the audio track. I'm sorry but there's nothing I can do about it; so don't whine about the damn soundtrack! X-(
